Traditional Nigerian retailers needed to go online but most e-commerce platforms were built for Western markets — wrong payments, wrong logistics, wrong user expectations.
ElShalom Stores is a beloved retailer in Akure with decades of customer trust. But their competitors were going online, and they were losing ground. They needed an e-commerce platform that understood the Nigerian market — cash on delivery, multiple payment options, mobile-first shopping, and integration with local logistics companies. The challenge wasn't just technical — it was cultural. How do you translate the in-store experience of personal service and product variety to a digital platform? 'Our customers know us,' Emmanuel said. 'The website needed to feel like us.'
Going online felt risky. They made it feel natural. Now we can't imagine business without it.

Managing Director, ElShalom Stores
We built an e-commerce platform that honors local shopping culture while delivering global standards.
Using Next.js and Vercel for blazing-fast performance, we created a mobile-first shopping experience that works on any device and any connection speed. The product catalog showcases their diverse inventory — household goods, electronics, furniture, groceries — with high-quality images and detailed descriptions. We integrated multiple payment options: Paystack for cards and bank transfers, cash on delivery for traditional shoppers, and even USSD for feature phone users. The checkout process is optimized for Nigerian addresses and phone numbers. We built a custom admin dashboard where staff can manage inventory, process orders, and coordinate with local delivery partners. The entire site loads in under 2 seconds even on 3G connections.
From local retailer to regional e-commerce leader — bringing Akure's favorite store online.
ElShalom Stores went from zero online presence to processing hundreds of orders weekly within the first month. Mobile traffic accounts for 85% of visits. The cash on delivery option accounts for 60% of orders (exactly as expected for the market). Customer feedback highlights the familiar feeling — '(the website) feels like shopping at the actual store.' Revenue from online sales now represents 30% of total business. The platform is expanding to serve customers across Ondo State.
